Student Policies Handbook

Preface

The policies found in this handbook reflect a slow evolution of the practices and emerging traditions of the medical school since its origin as a Master of Medical Science Program in 1963. The medical school's policies are dynamic and will continue to change as the times change.

The medical school pledges itself to maintaining an open and participatory process in policy development. Whenever it appears that policies need to be modified, the administration will bring the issue to faculty and students in whatever forum is most appropriate.

Students should also feel free to suggest new policies or changes in policies. Several of the policies in the handbook were the result of student initiatives. Draft copies of the proposed new policies will be distributed and comments will be invited prior to final adoption. In the rare case where policies must be adopted on an urgent or emergency basis, comments will still be solicited after the promulgation of the policies. These comments will be carefully reviewed and modification of the policies considered.
