Research Opportunities

The Karen T. Romer Undergraduate Teaching and Research Award Program (UTRA) is designed to strengthen undergraduate education through supporting collaborative research, course development, and teaching activities between faculty members and students in all academic disciplines. The fellowship may be held either over the summer or during the semester, and provide students with opportunities to work closely in research situations with faculty members, to participate integrally in the process of course development and revision, and to experience the work of college teaching directly. These collaborative projects can benefit students in several important ways: they provide valuable academic training, allow them to test their interest in pursuing an academic career, and they contribute to research and to improving the curriculum.

The Biology Undergraduate Affairs Office maintains a searchable database of research opportunities for undergraduates at Brown which lists faculty names and their research interests and may be browsed at http://bms.brown.edu/bug/ugres.htm.  It can be used to identify volunteer (non-credit) research opportunities, summer projects, independent study projects, and Honors projects.

The Directory of Research and Researchers at Brown, produced by Brown's Office of the Vice President for Research, has been designed to help Brown faculty promote their own research activities, and to make it easy for our various audiences (including Brown students and staff, investors and funding organizations, and the public at large) to keep track of ongoing research at Brown.
