Subspecialty Programs: Stroke & Cerebrovascular Disease

The Stroke Center at Rhode Island Hospital provides diagnostic and treatment services for patients with acute stroke as well as primary and secondary prevention.   It serves as a tertiary referral center for all of Rhode Island as well as southeastern Massachusetts.  In 2010 Rhode Island Hospital was Rhode Island Hospital certified by The Joint Commission as a primary stroke center.  As the region’s only primary stroke center located within a Level 1 trauma center, Rhode Island Hospital is uniquely qualified to provide the most advanced clinical care to acute stroke patients.  Facilities include a state-of-the-art carotid and transcranial ultrasound laboratory for non-invasive imaging of the cerebral vasculature, advanced vascular and brain imaging studies on arrival to the hospital, and a 24/7 interventional radiology service.
