The Multidisciplinary Laboratory
at Brown University
At the inception of
the Medical School at Brown University, the Multidisciplinary Laboratory
concept was adopted as a way to promote efficient and economical use of
space and equipment in support of the new medical curriculum. The sharing
of a common inventory of equipment and physical facilities, together with
its own technical staff, has allowed all departments greater flexibility
in designing their laboratory exercises. The MDL is located in the Biomedical
Center, occupying space on the basement, first floor and second floor
levels. It provides technical laboratory support and audiovisual support
for the Division of Biology and Medicine.
