Workshops and Events

Every year the BioMed Office of Financial Aid sponsors events that either provide information about the financial aid process and loan borrowing at medical school, offer information about personal financing or help students prepare for graduation. The Financial Wellness Program is a series of three separate events that include topics such as budgeting, understanding credit and tax preparation and tax issues for graduate students. The goal of the workshops is to familiarize students with the basics of financial planning and to provide resources and tools to help them develop a personal financial strategy throughout their medical school years and beyond. The financial wellness program is held in the fall.

We also conduct a yearly workshop for PLME and EIP students to guide them in the medical school financial aid process. The workshop is designed to ease students’ concerns about paying for medical school by demystifying the financial aid process. In this workshop, we discuss all of the steps related to receiving financial aid, from the application process to determining your eligibility for aid. The exit counseling program is exclusively for fourth-year medical students preparing for graduation and is generally held in May. The exit program is offered in two formats, an individual meeting with either a representative from the Loan Office or Office of Financial Aid or a small group session, with members of both offices represented. Students are sent an invitation, usually in March.

The following is the schedule for the fall 2009 Financial Wellness series. Please check in periodically for postings of current dates and materials.
