| Description | The student is assigned to the cardiothoracic surgical service. Students participate actively in the preoperative review of diagnostic tests such as cardiac catheterization films, MRI's, CT scans, etc. The student will be directly involved in daily rounds on the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. Students will scrub in on cardiothoracic surgical cases with a faculty mentor on a daily basis. Students will actively participate in the regular conference schedule and will be expected to attend a weekly Cardiac Catheterization Conference on Thursday mornings and Multidisciplinary Rounds on the CVTS ICU. Principles of surgical diagnosis and clinical physiology are especially emphasized for the student. The faculty mentor will assign supplemental reading pertaining to the types of specific cardiac anomalies and surgical interventions |
