Assessed by interview & presentation skills, written history & physical on new patients to Oncology clinic, patient interactions using verbal & nonverbal communication, oral case presentations, interactions with the clinical team. Student will be evaluated and provided feelback. Written presentation will be collected and evaluated on the final independen oral presentation.

Criteria for HonorsExemplary performance in both inpatient and outpatient setting, completion or progress towards and independent project during this rotation.
Criteria for PassingStudent is expected to be an active participant in the clinical care of women with cancer. Attendance at the weekly Gyn Oncology and Breast Health Center Tumor Boards, journal clubs, and conferences will be part of this rotation. Interaction with pathology and our busy surgical services will be a part of this rotation. Inpatient and morning rounds will also be expected.

DescriptionWIH offers the unique advantage to have a focused rotation through the Program in Women's Oncology. The student will have the opportunity to participate in the care of women with a gynecological or breast malignancy and to work in a multidisciplinary involvement with daily interaction with both surgical and radiation oncology specialists. Clinical care, pathologic correlation, and collaborative services will be stressed. The course will address Mechanics of neoplasia, Diagnosis & Intervention/Therapies of Cancer; Pharmacologic interventions in Cancer including drug toxicity and its manifestations; Biopsychosocial effects of a cancer diagnosis on the patient and the family/supportive unit; Breast and Gynecologic Cancer management; Approach to the elderly patient with cancer; Treatment decision-making; Managing Oncologic emergencies; and The delivery of bad news.
