Medical Student Awards Ceremony and Reception

Come salute graduates of the PLME and Medical School Class of 2008 as we honor their accomplishments with these distinguished awards. This event is open to all.

Registration/Check-In

The Hope Club at 6 Benevolent Street will be open so you can pick up your Reunion gift and event tickets. Also, we will have a printed schedule of events which will include all Medical School event locations and times. 

Registration will be open again on Saturday, May 24, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.

7 - 9 p.m.

Reunion Weekend Opening Celebration

Join us for this cornerstone event, a celebration to welcome reunion classes, congratulate the MD Class of 2008, and honor outstanding members of the Medical School community.  Families welcome.

9 p.m. 

Campus Dance

Put on your dancing shoes and head to the Main Green where graduating seniors and their families, alumni of all ages, and Brown faculty and staff swing the night away under the stars. A giant dance floor, hundreds of lanterns, and the sounds of Duke Bellaire and his Orchestra make this a must-see Reunion tradition.

Enhancing Care for Older Adults through Educational Interventions

A presentation of Brown's innovative training programs that incorporate concepts of aging into public health practices, health services research, and medical education.

Presented by Richard W. Besdine, MD, Philip A. Gruppuso, MD, Vincent Mor, PhD, and Terri Wetle, PhD, with a special introduction by David S. Greer, Former Dean of Brown’s Medical School

The Thirteenth Annual Ruth B. Sauber Distinguished Medical Alumni Lecture

That's How Eye See It: The Biology and Psychology of Visual Perception

This presentation will focus on the visual pathways and outline major recent advances in disease treatment. The relationship between the eye's function in health and disease and its influence on the work of selected impressionist and modern painters will also be explored as one example of the inter-relatedness of art and science.

This presentation will cover the natural history of fertility, the effects of aging, and strategies of fertility preservation.

The Office of Women in Medicine invites alumni and their families to an informal reception. Connect with fellow alums, network with Medical School faculty, and learn more about the Office’s programs.

The 25th and 30th Reunion Class Gatherings

Good food, good friends. Enjoy an intimate dinner with your classmates and their guests. The MD Class of 1978 will be dining at The Hi-Hat, and the MD Class of 1983 will be at Napa Valley Grille.*

Commencement Procession and Ceremony

A walk down memory lane … literally! Memories of your own Commencement will not be far from your mind as you watch the MD Class of 2008 march to their ceremony at the First Unitarian Church. Better yet, join in! Alumni are welcome to march* and attend the ceremony.  Immediately following there is a luncheon reception at the Hope Club.

Brown Medical Alumni Association Nominations

Nominations for the BMAA are currently being accepted. There is space on the registration form for your suggestions as well as online. Don’t hesitate to nominate yourself. This is a great way to give back to your alma mater while serving a critical role in the continued engagement of medical alumni throughout the nation and the world.

Weather and Weekend Attire

In Rhode Island, temperatures on Memorial Day weekend have been as high as 90 degrees or as low as 50 and rain is always a possibility. We strongly advise you to bring an umbrella and suitable clothing for variable weather. Most events are casual. Campus Dance attire is a personal choice ranging from gowns and tuxedos to jeans and Bermuda shorts.

Local Accommodations

For those who like the convenience (and the nostalgia) of staying on campus, rooms are available in Machado House on Prospect Street. To request a reservation, please visit the Office of Residential Life website.

Please be sure to specify in the comments box that you are requesting to stay in Machado House as part of the Medical School group.  More specific information regarding pricing and deadlines can be found at the Residential Life website.

Parking

You may leave your car in any of the University lots throughout campus. The two lots with the most spaces available are: the Erickson Complex, corner of Hope and Lloyd streets, and the Power Street lot (both lower and upper levels) at the corner of Power and Thayer streets.

Child Care Services – Camp Bruno

Friday and Saturday 5 p.m. – midnight

Reunion child care services will be provided for the 15th consecutive year by Children’s Conference Care, Inc. (CCCI) for children ages 3 and up in Brown’s Olney Margolis Athletic Center. Please contact CCCI directly at 617 492-6925 or info@childconf.com; or visit their website for more information or to secure your space. Register early since space is limited. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged; however, CCCI may accept a limited number of walk-ins if space permits.
