Standard Admission

Qualified graduates of any college or university may apply to the MD program through the standard route of admission. There are two applications to complete.

Step 1: AMCAS Application

The American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS), a non-profit, centralized application processing service for applicants to the first-year entering classes at participating U.S. medical schools. This service is administered by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). The application must be made electronically.

All academic transcripts are submitted to AMCAS and are due by the AMCAS application deadline. MCAT scores are required for candidates applying through the standard route.

Step 2: Alpert Medical School Secondary Application

Upon receipt of your AMCAS application, all candidates are automatically mailed and emailed instructions for completing the required secondary application. This application provides Brown-specific information that is not available on the AMCAS form.

Recommendation letters are submitted to Alpert Medical School and are due at the time of submission of the secondary application. We require either one composite recommendation from your undergraduate school’s premedical committee or three individual letters of recommendation from your premedical or research advisor, professors at the institution where you last studied, or other individuals of your choice. We accept letters of recommendation sent electronically through VirtualEvals or Interfolio. Paper letters must be submitted from your institution or the individual letter writer.

The AMCAS deadline for applying is November 1, 2008 and the Alpert Medical School Secondary Application (complete with letters of recommendation and $95 application fee) deadline is December 15, 2008.
