Does Alpert Medical School participate in the AMCAS application service?
All applicants to the first year at Alpert Medical School must first apply through The American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS).
Do all AMCAS applicants receive a secondary application?
Yes. All AMCAS applicants receive an email and a letter containing the link to the online secondary application form.
Is the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) required for admission?
MCAT scores are required for candidates applying through the standard route, the MD/PhD route, and the advanced standing route of admission. [MCAT scores are not required for the postbaccalaureate, EIP, and PLME routes of admission.]
For how many years are MCAT scores admissible?
MCAT scores dating back to 2004 are acceptable.
What is the latest MCAT score you will accept for this admission cycle?
We will accept MCAT scores taken through September 13, 2008.
Are there minimum GPA or MCAT scores required for applicants?
Successful applicants to Alpert Medical School usually present a GPA over 3.3 (on a 4.0 scale). There is no minimum MCAT composite score.
Are there any circumstances under which the secondary application fee can be waived?
Yes, the secondary application fee can be waived with written confirmation of an AMCAS fee waiver.

Does Brown have an Early Decision Program?
The PLME Program is the only route of admission to offer an Early Decision Program.
When are interviews held?
Interviews are conducted on campus from October through March.
How competitive is Alpert Medical School?
For the Fall 2008 entering class, Alpert Medical School received 2,877 secondary applications and gave 76 offers of admission through the standard route.
What percentage of students are admitted through the non-PLME routes?
Of the class entering in Fall 2009, an estimated 50-55% will be non-PLME students.
Does Brown have a pre-medical postbaccalaureate program?
No. Brown has consortial agreements with three institutions that offer premedical postbaccalaureate programs: Bryn Mawr College, Columbia University, and Goucher College. The Medical School reserves several places in each entering class for students enrolled in these programs. Applicants from our three linkage institutions must be nominated by their postbaccalaureate program advisors.Individuals who are enrolled in other postbaccalaureate programs may apply through the standard admission route.

Do you accept transfer applicants from other medical schools? What is the policy?
Students are occasionally admitted to Alpert Medical School with Advanced Standing. The decision to accept advanced standing applications for the Fall 2009 third-year class will be announced in November 2008. Please see Routes of Admission for details.
Does Brown accept international students?
Yes, individuals who are neither U.S. citizens nor U.S. permanent residents are eligible to apply for admission through most of the entry routes. All premedical course work must be completed in the United States or Canada in order to qualify for consideration. Financial support to international students is extremely limited. International applicants are required to provide information regarding their personal and family financial resources during the application process. This information is considered prior to admissions notification. Please review the Alpert Medical School financial aid website for additional information.
Is the admissions process need-blind?
Yes, except for international applicants. (See above question.)
Is there a Brown-Dartmouth route of admission?
No. The last admissions year for the Brown-Dartmouth program was 2005-2006. Thus, the final group to enroll at Brown through this route will be graduating from Alpert Medical School in 2010.
Is notification of admission decisions made on a rolling basis?
Yes.
What coursework must students complete prior to entering?

Is there a cutoff date for accepting coursework completed prior to entering Brown?
Generally, all premedical coursework should be completed within ten years prior to your anticipated enrollment at Brown.
Do all premedical courses have to be completed prior to application?
Applicants need not have completed all premedical courses at the time of application, but required courses must be completed and documented prior to matriculation at Alpert Medical School.
May admission to the Medical School be deferred?
Yes, a request for deferral of admission based on personal circumstances is considered on a case-by-case basis. Your place in the next year’s entering class is reserved; however, you must reapply through AMCAS.
