Early Identification Program

The Early Identification Program provides selected undergraduates with a place at Alpert Medical School upon continued academic progress and college graduation. The purpose of the program is to increase the opportunities for a career in medicine to residents of the state of Rhode Island and to students from medically underrepresented minority groups (African Americans, Mexican Americans, Native Americans, and Mainland Puerto Ricans). This route has two components.

  • For Rhode Island schools, it is a cooperative venture between Alpert Medical School and Providence College, Rhode Island College, and the University of Rhode Island.
  • For Tougaloo College, it is a cooperative venture between Alpert Medical School and Tougaloo Collage, a private, historically black liberal arts institution in Tougaloo, Mississippi.

Students are identified by their premedical advisor in the sophomore year of college, participate in professional development activities, and enroll in medical school after receiving the bachelor's degree. For more information and application procedures, please contact your premedical advisor at your participating institution.
