Dear Brown Alum:

Please join me in welcoming our new class of predoctoral interns and postdoctoral fellows. The 2008-2009 intern class started in July and postdoc fellows have been coming in throughout the summer. You can click here to learn more about our current trainees.

We were very fortunate to have a number of distinguished alumni return to Brown last year. It was wonderful to have Dr. Robert Krueger (97-98) come to town in May to present Academic Grand Rounds .

In June, we said congratulations to our 2007-2008 graduates. You can read about the interns and postdoctoral fellows who graduated by clicking here.

One highlight of the last training year was Research Day in April. Dr. Paul Greengard, PhD, 2000 Nobel Laureate, Vincent Astor Professor of Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience at the Rockefeller University and Director of the Fisher Center or Alzheimer's Research was the keynote speaker, and four of our trainees won awards at the 12th annual celebration. Among our interns, Jason Hassenstab won 1st place for “Pre-diabetes: A Voxel-Based Morphometry Study of Verbal Memory in Metabolic Syndrome", Marc Kruse and Shawnee Basden won 2nd place. Marc for "Validation of a Measure of Subjective Response to Alcohol Based on a Hypothetical Drinking Situation" and Shawnee for "Skin Conductance Levels as a Function of Race: Implications for Research Utilizing Physiological Measures in African-Americans". In the postdoc group. Richard Mulligan won 1st place for Behavioral Inhibition in Adults Given a Diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in Childhood: An fMRI Study".

In January Kelly D. Brownell, Ph.D. (75-76 intern) Professor of Psychology, Epidemiology and Public Health, Yale University, will present "Is There the Courge to Change the American Diet?" at the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior Academic Grand Rounds.

Hope to see you all in Rhode Island soon. Best wishes for a happy and healthy year!
