Combined Residency in Pediatrics, Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (Triple Board)

Cathy Adams – 2012
Dr. Adams earned her MD in 2007 from Pennsylvania State University, College of Medicine in Hershey,
PA. She completed her undergraduate training at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA in biology and
psychology, graduating magna cum laude. Following the completion of her degree, she worked at
Massachusetts General Hospital in the Partners AIDS Research Center in HIV vaccine design and taught
high school math. She was active in international health and advocacy during medical school, including
work with the Uganda Village Project, a sustainable development project in rural Uganda, of which
she was on the executive board. During residency, she was awarded the AACAP Outstanding Child and
Adolescent Psychiatry Resident Award in 2009 and the AACAP Educational Outreach Award in 2009 and
2011. She is currently the director of the Adolescent Leadership Council (TALC), a triple board founded
leadership organization composed of teens and college student mentors with chronic medical illnesses
that meets monthly to provide a forum for teens to discuss their experiences with illness, decrease
isolation and aid in the transition to adulthood and adult medical care. She has presented posters
during residency at AACAP and APHA. During residency Dr. Adams also spent time on away electives in
Siem Reap, Cambodia and Eldoret, Kenya. She is a BRIGHT (global health) scholar and a member of the
AMPATH Kenya mental health working group. She will be returning to Kenya in April. She enjoys traveling,
being outdoors and spending time with family and friends. Upon completing her residency, Cathy will serve as the Medical Director
of the new medical/psychiatric unit opening in the fall on the sixth floor of Hasbro Children’s
Hospital.

John Caskey – 2012
John received his MD in 2007 from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX. During
his time in Galveston, he also completed a PhD in Medical Humanities at the Institute for the Medical
Humanities, with particular focus on literature and medicine, medical ethics, and ethics education. He
completed his undergraduate training at Baylor University in Waco, TX. When not working, John enjoys
reading, live music, baseball, and spending time with his family. John and his family look forward to continuing to call Rhode Island home, as he
will work as a half-time staff psychiatrist at RIH Psychiatric Emergency Services, caring for both
children and adults, and continuing a small child psychotherapy practice.

Marta Majczak – 2012
Marta Majczak earned her MD in 2007 from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. She
completed her undergraduate degree in bioethics at Cornell University in 2003. During medical school
she participated in several international experiences including studying medical Spanish in Costa Rica
and rotating in Child Psychiatry at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. She also presented at the
American Public Health Association Annual Meeting & Exposition in November 2004 on work she had
done with janitors and hazardous cleaning chemicals in the San Francisco Bay Area the summer after her
first year. Throughout medical school she was employed as a tissue recovery technician for LifeChoice
Donor Services and received several awards and scholarships including the Merck Book Award, the
University of Connecticut Health Center Auxiliary Award and Scholarship, and the Judy Cook/Meta Snyder
Memorial Scholarship. During residency Dr. Majczak has continued her interest in international work and
has traveled to Angkor Children's Hospital in Siem Reap, Cambodia where she worked in pediatrics and to
Moi University Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, Kenya where she worked in psychiatry. She is
currently a chief resident of the Triple Board Program and has received the Educational Outreach Program
Award to attend the AACAP conference in 2011. In her spare time, Dr. Majczak enjoys doing renovation
projects around her home, sailing, and visiting and hosting friends and family. Marta is excited to stay in Providence and to join the faculty at Brown University
as the child psychiatrist for a new Child Partial Program at Bradley Hospital.

Pamela Mosher – 2011
was raised in Boston by Canadian parents and always wanted to be a
pediatrician. She received her B.S. from Duke University and her M.Div. from Harvard Divinity
School where she studied liberation theology, ethics, and interpretations of suffering and death
across religious traditions. During this time she began facilitating bereavement groups for college
students and decided to pursue a career in pediatric palliative care. Between divinity school and
med school Pam spent a fellowship year studying Celtic music in Scotland where she undertook
rigorous research in the pubs of Edinburgh. At Stanford Medical School Pam developed new
curricula around delivering difficult news and navigating end of life conversations with patients/
families, an effort she continued in residency along with facilitating bereavement groups. Pam
treasures the friendships formed with co-residents in pediatrics, psychiatry, and her wonderful
fellow graduates in child psychiatry at Brown. Pam was also the recipient of the prestigious
Laughlin Scholarship Award. Pam is now an attending in Pediatric Palliative Care at the Izaak
Walton Killam Children’s Hospital (IWK) in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Matthew Willis – 2011
Matthew grew up in East Lyme, CT. before completing his undergraduate
degree at Georgetown University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Biology major
and a Theology minor. He attended medical school at the University of Connecticut, where he
also obtained a Master of Public Health. Matt completed his Triple Board Residency at Brown
University in Pediatrics, General Psychiatry, and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. During
his residency, he directed The Adolescent Leadership Council, a support and advocacy group
for teens and families living with chronic medical illness. He was awarded the Community
Advocacy Award from the Department of Pediatrics in 2009, and was the recipient of the
Haffenreffer House Staff Excellence Award in May 2011. He is very excited to be joining
the multidisciplinary team at the Hasbro Partial Hospital Program, where he will be treating
children and adolescents with medical and psychiatric illness. He will also be joining Psychiatric
Emergency Services as a staff psychiatrist.

Elizabeth Kowal – 2011
Elizabeth joined the Triple Board Residency in 2006, after completing her medical
degree at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, MI. Her path to and through
Triple Board was not necessarily a direct one, as she began her journey with an Animal Science
degree from Michigan State University, and took two maternity leaves during her residency
training. However, the Brown Triple Board program has felt like home for some time and she
appreciates all of the support and direction, from amazing supervisors to co-residents, that has
been offered over the years. She looks forward to an interesting and varied career in Child &
Adolescent Psychiatry, that will begin in West Lafayette, IN.

Marsha Chenoweth – 2010
University of Texas Medical School at Houston
Marsha came from the great state of Texas, where she received her MD from University of Texas Houston Medical School in 2005. Prior to that, she received her Bachelor of Arts degrees in Music and Plan II Honors from The University of Texas at Austin, in 2000. Marsha graduated from the Brown Triple Board residency in September, 2010. and is excited to be joining a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry private practice in Cranston, RI, as well as continuing to do some urgent-care pediatrics at Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

Julianne Giust – 2010
Indiana University School of Medicine
Julianne was born and raised in Indiana, attended Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH and returned to Indiana University to earn a medical degree. Julianne recently completed her combined residency in pediatrics, psychiatry and child & adolescent psychiatry in December of 2010. Julianne will be staying on at Brown as an attending child and adolescent psychiatrist in the Rhode Island Hospital/Hasbro Children’s Hospital Emergency Department.

Chia Granda – 2010
Chia received her BA in Psychology and MD from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She completed her residency in Pediatrics, Adult Psychiatry, and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in December 2010 and returned to the island of Kaua'i. There, she will practice outpatient Child Psychiatry and General Pediatrics. Chia is committed to improving access to health care for the underserved, particularly for Native Hawaiians, reducing psychiatric stigma, and involving the community in improving mental health. In doing so, she will address the crystal methamphetamine epidemic.
