2012 Graduates
Erin Kelly, M.D.
Dr. Kelly completed her general psychiatry residency training at the University of Vermont/Fletcher Allen Health Care Center, where she was the chief resident. Dr. Kelly earned her MD in 2006 from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. She completed her undergraduate studies at the Queen’s University in Ontario, Canada. Dr. Kelly has been involved in research investigating the effectiveness of multi-disciplinary primary care appointments in Ireland’s lowest socioeconomic area as well as investigating relationships among severity of major depression, childhood adversity and type and severity of life events. In her first year of fellowship, Dr. Kelly joined the Bradley Hospital Ethics Committee and became psychiatry board certified with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. She participated heavily in recruitment, leading tours and hosting lunches and dinners with candidates. In the coming year, Dr. Kelly will participate in the Pediatric Anxiety Research Clinic as she has a strong interest in anxiety disorders as well as the assessment and treatment of early onset psychosis. In her spare time, Dr. Kelly enjoys dancing and is an accomplished instructor and choreographer. Erin will now be moving back to Canada closer to her family to work as a child psychiatrist at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.
Kerry-Ann Williams, M.D.
Dr. Williams completed her general psychiatry residency training at Creighton-Nebraska Health Foundation. She also earned her MD from Creighton University School of Medicine. Dr. Williams’ undergraduate studies were completed at Baylor University in Texas. Dr. Williams was the recipient of several awards at Creighton University School of Medicine, namely “Outstanding Student in Psychiatry”, “Outstanding Service to the School of Medicine” and “Health Sciences Multicultural and Community Affairs Award for Excellence-for Leadership in the Student National Medical Association”. In her first year of fellowship, Dr. Williams lectured to the pediatric residents on anxiety and tic disorders and gave a Grand Rounds at Newport Hospital entitled, “Treatment of the Psychotic Child”. She is interested in continuing her work in the outpatient clinic during her second year and will be doing research as well as an elective in the Pediatric Anxiety Research Clinic. Outside of fellowship, she enjoys traveling, reading and gardening. Kerry-Ann plans on moving to Cambridge, MA where she will serve as a staff psychiatrist at Cambridge Health Alliance and with the Justice Resource Institute.
Michael Adragna, M.D.
Dr. Adragna completed his general psychiatry residency training at State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. Adragna also received his MD in May of 2006 from SUNY Buffalo. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Dr. Adragna received the Residency Service Award from the Department of Psychiatry at SUNY Buffalo in 2007-08 and 2008-09, which is given to a resident who goes above and beyond to help his fellow residents. Dr. Adragna served on a number of Departmental committees, including resident representative on the GME committee. In his first year as a fellow, Dr. Michael Adragna gave Grand Rounds at Bradley Hospital, entitled "Psychiatry Residents on Facebook: Content, Attitudes, and Experiences," based on a nationwide survey of psychiatric trainees that he conducted. He also presented a poster at last year's AACAP meeting based on work from his general residency, entitled "The Rapid Pediatric Psychiatric Consultation Project: Following Consultants' Medication Recommendations Predicts a Positive Response." Finally, he served on the Academic Policy Committee, and began participating in community outreach by speaking to a group of adolescents with anger management problems. Mike’s interest in social networking and the use of technology in psychiatry has also led him to be a co-investigator on a project exploring adolescents' use of social media to express suicidal thoughts. He'll be returning to Buffalo to join the University at Buffalo faculty.
Nicole Franklin, M.D.
Dr. Franklin completed her general psychiatry residency training at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. She received her MD in 2007 from Marshall University School of Medicine, Huntington WV, where she also completed her undergraduate training. During her residency, Dr. Franklin volunteered at the CARES clinic, providing free medical and psychiatric care and worked in her spare time at the state forensic hospital. She had leadership roles on the Resident Selection Committee, Resident Curriculum Committee and the Executive Quality Committee. In her first year of fellowship, Dr. Franklin arranged the candidate dinners and led tours during interview season, culminating the experience on the selection committee. She completed a project on rating scales at the state’s juvenile detention facility. She lectured first year Brown medical students on pediatric psychopathology and was on the Academic Policy Committee. Dr. Franklin was an active participant of the AACAP media committee and in the coming year, will undertake a child media review project. Her interests include developmental disorders, emergency psychiatry and the interface between medicine and psychiatry. In her free time, Dr. Franklin enjoys shopping, reading and working in historic preservation. Nicole’s next step will be to head back to the south where she will be working as an inpatient child and adolescent psychiatrist at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee.
Stephanie Hartselle, M.D.
Dr. Hartselle completed her general psychiatry residency training at New York University Medical Center. She earned her MD in 2007 from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago. She completed her undergraduate training at Linfield College in Oregon. During residency, Dr. Hartselle was a Fellow at the New York University Psychoanalytic Institute and was involved in two research projects: “Atypical Antipsychotic Induced Obesity and Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome” and “Development of Brain Connectivity in Autism”. During her first year of fellowship, Dr. Hartselle led a medical student teaching seminar on psychopathology, presented a poster at the Brown Research Day on the psychopathy of Lizzie Borden and received a scholarship to attend the AACAP advocacy day in Washington D.C. Dr. Hartselle is currently creating films on child and adolescent normal development and has been accepted to present her project at the American Academic Psychiatry meeting this year. She enjoys cooking, sewing and hunting for antiques in her spare time. During her training, Stephanie has been involved in research at Brown with media in psychiatry. She presented several films at the Academic Psychiatry conference that she created aimed at parent instruction. She also accepted a position on the AACAP Consumer Issues Committee which writes the Facts For Families. Stephanie will be the Director of Psychiatric Emergency Services at Hasbro Children's Hospital. She also plans to continue her work in media, film and consumer issues.
2011 Graduates
Todd Peters, M.D.
Dr. Peters will become one of the attendings on the Inpatient Child/Adolescent Psychiatry
Program at Vanderbilt University Psychiatric Hospital along with helping to develop and run an
anxiety treatment program for youth in the near future.
Dr. Peters, completed his PGY-3 General Psychiatry residency at Brown’s General Psychiatry
program, earned his MD from the Pennsylvania State College of Medicine in May 2006,
graduating AOA and also received an award for his Excellence in Psychiatry Research. Dr.
Peters completed his undergraduate education at McDaniel College (formerly Western Maryland
College). He is a reviewer for the Journal of Adolescent Health, has 3 publications of his own
and has been active as a teacher and mentor to junior residents and medical students. Dr. Peters
has also been actively involved in the Pediatric Anxiety Research Clinic, (PARC) within the
Division of Child Psychiatry and one of the three national university programs affiliated with the
Pediatric OCD treatment Study. Dr. Peters was the 2010 National Champion of the American
Psychiatric Association’s MindGames (a national team competition for residents at the annual
APA conference). He and three other teammates represented Brown. Dr. Peters was the Child
Psychiatry Fellowship’s Chief Resident 2010-2011.
Jonathan Calimlim Manaoat, M.D.
Dr. Manaoat returned to the West Coast for his forensic psychiatry fellowship at the University
of Southern California. He plans to craft a career in children’s community mental health,
psychotherapy, and forensic psychiatry.
Dr. Manaoat completed his General Psychiatry residency at the California Pacific Medical
Center in San Francisco, California. Dr. Manaoat received his MD in 2005 at the University
of California, San Francisco. He also completed his undergraduate training there.
During
residency, Dr. Manaoat was involved with the Edgewood Center for Children and Families
providing short-term psychotherapy for two programs, which helped support non-parental family
caregivers and service programs for youth 16-25. He was the chief resident in his General
Psychiatry Program.
Rotsna Pradhan, M.D.
Dr. Pradhan will be working as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with Northern Rhode Island
(NRI) mental health services.
Dr. Pradhan completed her General Psychiatry residency at the Institute of Living, Hartford
Hospital. Dr. Pradhan received her MD from Ghandi Medical College in India in 2001. Dr.
Pradhan had been substantially involved with relief efforts in poverty stricken areas of India
prior to residency. While in residency she was described as an excellent team player with notable
clinical skills. She has been an active resident member of AACAP and was selected to attend the
annual meeting in Chicago in 2008. Dr. Pradhan has multiple interests including bipolar disorder,
and anxiety disorders, and sexual identity disorders, and has presented on these topics while in
residency.
Laura Whiteley, M.D.
Upon completion of her three year research fellowship, Dr. Whiteley will continue as faculty at
Brown on the research track in bio-behavioral HIV prevention, including utilizing technology for
STI/HIV prevention interventions.
Dr. Whiteley was a PGY-3 General Psychiatry resident in the Brown University General
Psychiatry program. Dr. Whiteley received her MD from Temple University in 2005. Dr.
Whiteley completed a premed post baccalaureate program at Bryn Mawr College following her
undergraduate studies at University of Pennsylvania graduating magna cum laude with honors
in major of International Relations. Dr. Whiteley has been actively involved as a Research Team
Member, in several NIMH funded research studies with Dr. Larry Brown in the Department of
Child and Adolescent Psychiatry here at Brown. Her research interests and current projects
are HIV risk behaviors in adolescents and HIV preventative behaviors. She was also selected
for an AACAP/ Brain Science Institute retreat in Chicago in December of 2007. Dr. Whiteley is
described as an extremely diligent, hard working and conscientious physician and a great team
player. We are very pleased that she will be staying at Brown where she will be training within a
novel integrated research/clinical track.
Xiangyang (Patrick) Zhao, M.D.
Dr. Zhao has taken a position as a child psychiatrist in a Minnesota State hospital treating
severely ill adolescents.
Dr. Zhao completed his PBY-3 General Psychiatry training at Case Western Reserve University
Metro Health Medical Center. He earned his MD from Norman Bethune Medical University,
China and his MS from Shanghai Second Medical University in China. Between medical school
and residency Dr. Zhao has been a noted researcher, initially in surgery and subsequently in
psychiatry, presenting at the annual American Psychiatric Association in DC in 2008 on “Impacts
of Local Negative Events on Mental Health Visits to a Remote Emergency Department”. He
plans to pursue a combined clinical and research career in child psychiatry.
2010 Graduates
Maria Luisa Hincapie, M.D.
Maria-Luisa will be returning to her home in Panama as a child psychiatrist.
Maria completed her general psychiatry residency here at Brown and earned her MD at The University of Western Ontario.
Seema Shah, M.D.
Seema has taken a position as a child psychiatrist for a Behavioral School in Philadelphia.
Seema completed her general psychiatry residency here at Brown and earned her MD at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Heather Shibley, M.D.
Heather was the recipient of the American College of Psychiatrists Laughlin Fellowship Award and the Rhode Island Hospital Haffenreffer House Staff Excellence Award. Heather will be a Lieutenant in the US Navy Medical Corp, stationed in San Diego California.
Heather came to Brown after completing her general psychiatry residency at the Medical University of South Carolina. Heather graduated AOA from Penn State College of Medicine. Heather is an active member of the American Psychiatric Association on the Dimensions of Disaster Committee. She has been named to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry’s Task Force on Crisis and Disaster Preparedness.
Michael Wolfe, M.D.
Michael has taken a position as a child psychiatrist in New Zealand.
Michael chose to continue his child and adolescent psychiatry training at Brown after he completed four years of his general psychiatry residency here. Michael received his MD at the West Virginia University School of Medicine. Michael recently spent a month in Kenya with a team of psychiatrist from the Department of Psychiatry at Brown, including the chairman, at the Moi University School of Medicine Teaching and Referral Hospital.
2009 Graduates
James Andriotis, M.D.
James completed his general psychiatry residency at Brown and his MD at the University of Connecticut Medical School.
Dr. Andriotis will be an Child/Adult Psychiatry Attending at the Butler Hospital Emergency Department. He will also be in private practice in Cranston, Rhode Island.
Sandra DeSantis, M.D.
Chief Resident, Child Psychiatry
Sandy came to Brown after completing her general psychiatry residency at Albany Medical Center in New York. She also earned her MD from Albany Medical College.
Dr. DeSantis will be heading the Children’s Inpatient Unit at FourWinds Hospital in Saratoga Springs, New York.
John Hart, M.D.
John came to Brown after completing his general psychiatry residency at LAC & USC Medical Center, Los Angeles, and his MD at Albany Medical College.
Dr. Hart will be a Staff Psychiatrist, Adolescent Partial Program, Bournewood Hospital, Brookline MA.
Jamie Rogers, M.D.
Jamie came to Brown after completing his general psychiatry residency at the University of South Florida, and his MD at the University of South Florida College of Medicine.
Dr. Rogers will be a Child Psychiatry Attending on the Children’s Inpatient Unit at Bradley Hospital. He will also be seeing patients in the Child Psychiatry Outpatient Department at Rhode Island Hospital.
Noha Sadek, M.D.
Chief Resident, Child Psychiatry
Noha is a graduate of the American University of Beirut. Before arriving at Brown she completed her general psychiatry residency at Emory University. Noha also completed one year of child psychiatry training at the Medical College of Georgia. Noha was a staff psychiatrist at the Fairmont Medical Center Mayo Health System in Minnesota for five years before continuing her child psychiatry training here at Brown. She is board certified in psychiatry. Noha was recently granted the psychoanalytic fellowship from the American Psychoanalytic Association for 2008-2009.
Dr. Sadek will be a Child Psychiatry Attending at Bradley Hospital at the Pediatric Partial Hospitalization program. She will also be seeing patients in the Outpatient Clinic at Bradley.
