Faculty Processes & Departmental Oversight
Brief Overview of Department-specific and Brown BioMed processes:
Required paperwork for any faculty action is sent to Holly Wilker, Manager of Academic Affairs, DPHB Office of the Chair. The action is then added to the agenda for the next appropriate DPHB faculty committee meeting. Once the DPHB committee approves the action, a cover letter from the Chair is written and the packet is submitted to the BioMed Faculty Affairs Office for processing and official Dean's approval. Once the Dean approves the action, the faculty member will receive an official letter from the Dean notifying him/her that is has been approved.
Clinical & Full Time Academic Committees:
There are two DPHB committees that review and approval faculty actions -- the Clinical Faculty Appointments, Reappointments and Promotions Committee, and the Full Faculty Appointments, Reappointments and Promotions Committee. Both of these committees usually meet four times a year (typically September, November, March and May). The committees are responsible for reviewing proposed faculty actions and deciding whether or not to approve them for the next step in the process. The Full Faculty Committee is comprised of all the full Professors in the Department and is chaired by Ivan Miller, PhD. The Clinical Faculty Committee is comprised of the DHB Training Directors plus a few other active long-time clinical faculty members. It is chaired by Marjorie Weishaar, PhD. Both committees are coordinated by the Manager of Academic Affairs.
